Excerpt from the genealogical tree

Numerous marriages tied the Miniscalchi to the most important families of the Veronese nobility. Of particular importance was the wedding celebrated in 1785 between Marcantonio Miniscalchi and Teresa Moscardo. Teresa was the daughter of Princess Alfonsa D'Este and was also heir to the collections of art, science and nature collected by the erudite Ludovico Moscardo (1611-1681) in his "domestic" museum.

This wedding is allegorically represented in this tempera on plaster, where Teresa introduces her husband to the house of Este, represented by Minerva, while a putto holds a wedding torch and a shield with the coats of arms of the spouses' families. In the background you can glimpse the Wing of the Verona Arena.

From this marriage was born Luigi Miniscalchi who in 1808 married Marianna Erizzo. She was the last descendent of the illustrious Venetian family that boasted among its members a Doge whose portrait is exhibited here behind your back.
