Masterpieces on paper. Drawings from the Miniscalchi-Erizzo Museum between Reinassance and Baroque
- Data evento: April 5 - 30 June, 2025
The exhibition Masterpieces on Paper. Drawings from the Miniscalchi-Erizzo Museum between the Renaissance and Baroque, curated by Thomas Dalla Costa and Giovanna Residori, with Maria Aresin and Gabriele Matino, is dedicated to a collection of ancient drawings executed between approximately 1480 and 1730 by great Italian artists, including Giovanni Maria Falconetto, Battista del Moro, Paolo Farinati, Alessandro Maganza, Palma il Giovane, Jacopo Bassano, and Alessandro Turchi, known as l’Orbetto.
Masterpieces on Paper, open to the public from April 5th to June 30th, 2025, presents a selection of 30 out of 168 drawings from the Miniscalchi-Erizzo Collection, along with paintings, sculptures, and documents, for a total of 38 works. This is the first time a selection of these drawings has been shown. The Miniscalchi-Erizzo Collection was assembled between approximately 1630 and 1680 by the celebrated Veronese scholar Ludovico Moscardo and continued by his heirs; it was one of the first collections of its kind in Northern Italy and one of the most substantial.
The exhibition represents the culmination of a broader project that benefited from prestigious international funding granted by the Getty Foundation of Los Angeles (California), which the Foundation and the curators won by competing for the "The Paper Project: Prints and Drawings Curatorship in the 21st Century" grant. Beginning in 2021, the project undertaken by the Miniscalchi-Erizzo Museum Foundation included a new cataloging and restoration campaign for many of the drawings, as well as the creation of an online database (https://disegni.museominiscalchi.it/it) and a reasoned catalog (published by SilvanaEditoriale, Milan) available for purchase from April 5th.
Although several drawings remained in the museum, part of the collection was dispersed starting in the first decade of the 20th century when some sheets were sold to the Florentine dealer and collector Luigi Grassi. They subsequently passed through the hands of major 20th-century collectors such as Frits Lugt and Janos Scholz, eventually ending up in various important museums and institutions across Europe and the United States.
